overthinker is an app for the questions you turn over late at night. You ask one, and it shows you the ways it could go. This page says what we keep, why, and who else touches it. We wrote it to be read, not skimmed past.
The short version
- We keep what the app needs to work, and nothing to sell.
- No ads. No tracking across other apps or websites.
- Your name is never shown to anyone.
- A question you ask can be shown to other people without your name, only after it has been checked, and you can keep it to yourself.
- You can delete your account in the app, and it goes.
- overthinker is for people 13 and older.
What we keep
Your account. When you sign in with Apple, Google or email, we keep the ID that service gives us, and the email address if it gives us one. Apple often gives a private relay address instead of your real one.
Your questions. What you ask is sent to our server so the outcomes can be written.
What you answer. When you say how something turned out, make a guess or skip a card, we keep that. It is how the numbers are made, and how your balance of answers is counted. A one-line note you add is kept too.
Details you add after your first question stay on your phone. They are not sent to us.
People. The people you describe in the app — their names, faces and what they're like — stay on your phone. When you ask about "my mom", we get those words and nothing about who she is.
The locked copy of your people. If you turn it on, your phone seals your people before anything leaves it, and we keep only the sealed copy. The key to open it lives in your iCloud Keychain, which only your Apple devices can read, and an optional recovery key you write down yourself. We never have either, so we can't open the copy — not for ourselves, not for anyone who asks, and not if our servers were broken into. Turning it off, or deleting your account, deletes it.
Purchases. If you buy Pro, Apple sends us a signed record of the purchase: which plan, when it started and when it ends. We never see your card or your Apple account.
Notifications. If you turn them on, we keep your phone's push token so we can send them.
Your age. We ask when you were born. We keep only whether you are 13 or older, and only on your phone. The date is not kept or sent anywhere.
Your network address. We use it for a short time to stop one person flooding the app. It is not linked to what you ask.
How the app is used. The app tells our own server which screens you open and what you tap, such as reaching the sign-in screen, seeing the Pro plans or scrolling the feed. We use it to see where the app is confusing and to test small changes, like two versions of a screen. It is linked to your account and deleted with it. It never includes anything you typed, and it goes to no one else.
Crash reports. If the app crashes or freezes, Apple gives it a technical report on the next launch, and the app sends it to our server. It says where in the code things went wrong. It holds nothing you wrote.
Our logs record which part of the app was used and whether it worked. They never record what anyone typed.
What other people can see
A question you ask can appear in other people's feed so they can say how theirs went. That is the whole idea of the app. It never carries your name, and it is only shown after it has been checked. You can keep any question to yourself.
A note you add after an answer can be shown next to that outcome, again without your name, and only once it has been checked.
If you report or block something, the person who wrote it is not told who you are.
Who else touches it
We use a few companies to run the app. Each one only gets what it needs for its job.
- Google Cloud runs our server and database, and its AI models help us match similar questions and check what is shown to other people.
- OpenAI writes the outcomes. It gets the text of your question, not your account.
- Apple handles Sign in with Apple, purchases and notifications.
- Google handles Sign in with Google, if you use it.
- SendGrid sends sign-in codes, if you sign in with email.
We do not sell anything about you, and we do not share it with anyone else unless the law makes us.
Deleting it
Go to Settings, then Account, then Delete account. Your questions, answers, notes, guesses, devices, usage and crash reports are deleted. What stays is a count with no person attached: that one more person said a certain outcome happened for a certain kind of question. That keeps the numbers other people read from jumping when someone leaves.

Age
overthinker is for people 13 and older. We ask your age before you can sign in. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 13, we delete it.
Changes
If this page changes in a way that matters, we will say so in the app before it takes effect.
